67-Conventional Whirling Dervishes

The ceremony of the Whirling Dervishes is a lot more than just a conventional prayer ritual. It is deeply rooted in Mevlana Jelaleddin Rumi’s philosophy of embracing all humanity, in its representation of the relationship between God and Man and Earth. In the posture of the whirling dervish we can observe that the raised hand towards heavens is indicating the presence of God and and the other hand towards the earth indicates the transition of life force from God to Earth. In Rumi’s philosophy, Man stands just at this junction, at this very point of transition.
