48-Whirling Dervish with Laser

It’s a dance performance where the “semah” ritual is modernized through technological elements such as laser and LED lights. The show opens with a four minute “semah” section. In this part, the audience wittness the original version of a “semah”. In the proceeding part, the concept of God in the philosophy of Semah is symbolized as “the light of God” by the laser light pointing downwards. The light is absorbed and distributed by the mirrors in the whirling dervishes’ hands. It is an interpretation of “the human giving form to God’s light on earth and sharing it with the whole of humanity”.
